It is with immense pleasure that I am serving as Commodore of Nanaimo Yacht Club, fifty years after joining as junior member and fifty years after my father PC Jack Charmley served.
Nanaimo Yacht Club is approaching its 100 Anniversary in 2031. NYC and it's members play a pivotal community role in Nanaimo, whether it's our beautiful waterfront facility diligently kept together by many member volunteers, community engagement with our annual Sailpast, Light up cruise, SIN Regatta, our incredibly important community facing Sailing School offering CanSail certification courses to hundreds of Nanaimo's youth and our economic contribution to Nanaimo between NYC and member assets, school and reciprocal visitors.
Our Club is just that, a place to belong and be part of, a Club that is driven by Volunteerism and the love of Recreational boating. When you are a member and volunteer you are offering your time, skill and resources, your motivation to volunteer is done with your desire to contribute, make a positive impact and to support your Club. Your volunteering is a selfless act, hopefully with personal rewards, a sense of fulfillment, new friendships and new skills. When you volunteer, it is done with incredible thanks from NYC and its members.
The waters around Nanaimo and beyond provide us with year round cruising and racing, do it often, safely, courteously and fly your NYC burgee with pride.
